Patient History
38-year-old male complaining of 3rd digit pain status post water polo injury in June 2017.
Findings
LIGAMENTS: Normal. No injury to the pulley mechanisms.
OSSEOUS: No evidence of avulsion fractures with special attention to the dorsal aspect of the 3rd distal phalanx.
TENDONS: Complete tear or rupture of the terminal extensor tendon located about 6-7 mm from its insertion at the 3rd distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint capsule associated with diffuse soft tissue swelling dorsally.
The flexor digitorum profundus and superficialis tendons are intact.
Impressions
1.Soft mallet injury of the right 3rd digit with complete rupture of terminal extensor tendon 6-7 mm proximally to its insertion at the DIP joint capsule.
