Report

DIAGNOSIS: Osteomyelitis

EXAM: Right Knee Radiographs (X-ray), 2 views

INDICATION: 10-year-old girl with pain and persistent fever, as well as unwillingness to bear weight on the left side.

TECHNIQUE: AP and lateral views of the knee were obtained

FINDINGS:

There is a suprapatellar joint effusion. The femoral trabecular pattern appears diminished, suggesting osteopenia. There is a metaphyseal lucency at the distal femur, above the medial aspect of the growth plate and in the distal femoral metaphysis. There is no acute fracture or dislocation.

IMPRESSIONS:

Lucency in the distal right femur could represent osteomyelitis. It may be helpful to obtain knee MRI to further evaluate for bone marrow changes.
