On this episode of The Radiology Report podcast, we’re joined by Peter Shen, Head of Digital & Automation at Siemens Healthineers North America, and a leading voice in the national conversation around AI in medicine. With over two decades in the industry, Peter has been at the forefront of emerging technologies ranging from imaging informatics and 3D visualization to AI-powered diagnostics.

Since November 2023, Peter has testified before Congress six times, advocating for federal policies that would accelerate AI adoption, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Just the other week, the Health Tech Investment Act (S.1399) was introduced, marking a pivotal moment for clinical AI policy, and Peter walks us through what this legislation could mean for radiology, reimbursement, and innovation.

We explore:

  • Peter’s career journey and what led him to focus on AI in healthcare and radiology
  • Where Siemens is seeing successful deployments of AI today and why reimbursement is still lagging
  • His behind-the-scenes insights from testifying before Congress, and why support is building
  • What it will take to gather ROI data and build confidence in AI’s clinical and economic value
