Alabama

Requirements Overview

  • Total Hours Required:
    • For MDs, you must complete forty (40) hours in the twenty-four (24) months preceding their licensure renewal.
    • For DOs, you must complete forty (40) hours of courses approved by the Board in category 1-A, II-A, and/or I-B continuing medical education as defined by the American Osteopathic Association. 
      • No more than twenty (20) credits should be obtained in Category I-B. 
  • License Renewal Cycle: 24 months.

Mandatory Topics

  • For MD's:
    • Unless exempted by statute, two (2) of the forty (40) required hours must relate to controlled substance prescribing, which must include instruction in the Department’s treatment guidelines on opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates and carisoprodol and may include instruction on topics such as medicine addiction, risk management tools and other topics approved by the Board.
  • For DO's:
    • Unless statutorily exempted under TCA 63-1-402(c), all licensees shall complete a minimum of two (2) hours in continuing medical education related to controlled substances prescribing, which must be Tennessee specific thus including instruction in the Department’s treatment guidelines on opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and carisoprodol and may include topics such as medicine addiction, risk management tools, and other topics approved by the Board.

Will I earn CME / CPD credits with Fellowship Certificate Programs?

Absolutely!

With Fellowship Certificate Programs you can claim AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Number of credits varies by program. See program pages for credit details.

All courses in the Fellowship Certificate Program are accredited by ACCME and you will receive a CME certificate at the end of the fellowship for all CME that you have earned from courses in the Fellowship Certificate Program.

MRI Online is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians

How do I earn the Fellowship Certificate?

In order to earn your Fellowship Certificate you must complete all the required practice cases in a given fellowship program. Number of cases may vary by program. In fellowships with report feedback feedback you must submit at least 80% of case reports for grading and feedback to earn your certificate.

Will my employer or hospital consider this Fellowship training?

All courses in the Fellowship Certificate Program are accredited by ACCME and you will receive a CME certificate at the end of the fellowship for all CME that you have earned from courses in the Fellowship Certificate Program. In addition, each of the Fellowship Certificate programs include a Medality Certificate of Completion with the date of completion on the certificate and the name of the subspecialty and modality for the Fellowship Certificate that you completed.
