Course Description

Assess your speed and accuracy reviewing Brain CT and MRI studies (and earn CME while doing it!). 

Dr. David Yousem has put together a series of  interesting non-vascular Brain Imaging cases that you can scroll through and assess your reading and interpretation skills. After each case quiz, you’ll be provided with your case review time, the correct diagnosis, and a gold standard case report.

Each case includes:

  • Patient history 

  • DICOM study you can scroll through in our diagnostic web viewer

  • Timed case review assessment

  • Diagnosis and findings assessment

  • Gold Standard Case report
  • Additional learning materials

At the end of the series, review your results and then dive into our companion Mastery Courses that can help you gain confidence and improve your accuracy and efficiency reading Brain Imaging cases.

The Brain Imaging Case Challenge was developed by David M Yousem, MBA, MD and co-contributor, Faranak Rafiee, MD.

Case 1 - 56 year old man with new onset seizure

Case 2 - 42 year old woman with recent seizure causing slurred speech, difficulty walking, arm and hand numbness and weakness.

Case 3 - Recent MVA and comminuted skull fracture post debridement, now with eye swelling and vision loss.

Case 4 - A patient with ventriculoperitoneal shunt presenting with nausea and emesis

Case 5 - 62 year-old patient came with tangential speech, perseverations, hallucinations.

Case 6 - History of Von Hippel Lindau syndrome

Case 7 - 28-year-old female pedestrian struck at approximately 50 mph. Head laceration

Case 8 - Increasing frequency of headache. Nausea, dizziness, possible papilledema in the left eye.

Case 9 - 18 year-old male with four-day history of ataxia and dysarthria, right hand and leg numbness and right-sided facial droop.

Case 10 - Multiple Sclerosis follow-up

Case 11 - 6 month old infant found unresponsive

Case 12 - Atypical parkinsonism. Movement disorder. Possible orthostatic hypotension. Indistinct speech.

Case 13 - 67 year old with cognitive impairment and orthostatic hypotension.

Case 14 - 10 year old with one week of worsening right sided arm and leg weakness (right foot drop) and right facial droop.

Case 15 - Neurofibromatosis type I

Case 16 - 71 year old with past medical history of diabetes, hypothyroidism, and dementia status post fall.

Case 17 - 4 year old with seizure and hemiparesis on the left side.

Case 18 - Altered mental status. Known case of SDH/SAH.

Case 19 - Hypoxic respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19 and superimposed bacterial pneumonia

Case 20 - 44 year old patient with one week history of headache

Case 21 - High impact trauma with CT showing bilateral temporal ICH

Case 22 - 34 year old woman with relapsed CNS inflammatory condition of unclear etiology

Case 23 - History of refractory epilepsy with complex partial seizures

Case 24 - A patient with lateral inferior quadrant visual field defect on left side.

Case 25 - HIV positive patient came with incontinence followed by unresponsiveness and agitation
