0:00

Okay, so we are at the final clinical scenario,

0:05

clinical scenario number six,

0:06

where the patient has fever and back pain.

0:09

Now,

0:09

this is often seen in IV drug abusers or patients with AIDS

0:14

that have a propensity for discitis and osteomyelitis.

0:18

You may also see this in the post-op spine patients

0:21

who have had fusion or instrumentation,

0:24

where they come back in a week or

0:27

so post-op with fever and back pain.

0:31

You can also see this in patients who have tuberculosis

0:34

of the lungs with secondary Pott's disease involving

0:38

the spinal canal. So in some cases,

0:41

we just see the patient being sent down as an inpatient.

0:45

The patient has sepsis and they have not, as of yet,

0:48

found a source of the infection after going through the chest

0:52

x-rays and the urinary tract and

0:54

you know, doing the urinalysis,

0:56

and they're just looking randomly for

0:59

the source of the patient's sepsis.

1:02

So these are some of the scenarios in which you may

1:06

see the patient being evaluated for fever, back pain.
