Hello everyone, Dr. Sidney Levy.

0:03

3 00:00:04,830 --> 00:00:08,039 I would like to conclude our discussion on

0:08

post-cricoid region squamous cell carcinoma by

0:12

documenting a couple of differential diagnoses.

0:16

Pharyngitis in the context of infection or

0:18

inflammation can mimic a post-cricoid space malignancy.

0:23

Uh, and really the only difference is that there

0:27

tends to be more focality and a mass-like nature to

0:30

the malignancy, and obviously the clinical setting.

0:33

It can often be difficult to distinguish post-

0:37

cricoid region from posterior hypopharyngeal

0:41

wall squamous cell carcinoma, and sometimes

0:43

clinical examination is the only way to be sure.

0:47

The other thing to keep in mind is

0:49

that, uh, cervical esophageal carcinoma

0:53

can present in a very similar fashion to post-cricoid

0:57

region squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

1:01

And really it all comes down to where the

1:04

lesion is centered on the sagittal projection

1:06

to help you decide at the time of reporting.
