Left Parotid Squamous Cell Carcinoma – Case

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

This was a patient whose biopsy revealed

0:03

squamous cell carcinoma. In this case,

0:06

I believe that this is most likely from the

0:08

ductal epithelium. How do we know that?

0:11

Well, here we have a patient on a T1

0:13

weighted scan, has a mass which is along the

0:16

distalmost portion of the parotid tissue

0:18

and in close approximation to the

0:23

Stensen's duct. So here is the duct.

0:25

Here's the mass.

0:27

T2-weighted scan, kind of gray,

0:30

a little bit brighter than I would expect for a squamous

0:32

cell carcinoma and showing enhancement.

0:35

But also you see a little bit of the duct here that

0:40

is dilated and enhancing along its periphery.

0:44

And in this situation, with the area of necrosis,

0:48

identifying it as most likely malignancy.

0:50

So for this,

0:51

we would suggest this is most likely a squamous cell

0:57

carcinoma of the ductal epithelium in the parotid gland.
