Course Description

Women’s imaging is an ever evolving field of medicine, and feeling comfortable with best practices in subspecialties, like uterine imaging, can be overwhelming.

Currently, ultrasound is the mainstay of imaging of the female pelvis due to its availability, lack of radiation, good view of spatial anatomy, and its portability. However, MRI is also helpful for evaluating uterine pathology, particularly in cases of leiomyomas (fibroids) and endometrial cancer. CT of the pelvis can also help support evaluation of gynecologic and post-pregnancy complications.

Becoming adept at reading uterine images is crucial for properly diagnosing fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, carcinoma, and other conditions.

In this Mastery Series course, Dr. Kathryn McGillen from Penn State University shares her gynecologic body imaging experience to walk through a series of uterus pathologies, including mullerian duct anomalies, adenomyosis, leiomyomas/fibroids, endometriosis, as well as special considerations for post-pregnancy and post-menopausal imaging. Her case reviews and teaching points will help you better understand basic ultrasound uterine imaging techniques, anatomy, pathology, and more!

After completing this educational activity, you will feel more confident reading uterine imaging and help the medical community improve patient outcomes.

Foundational Topics in this Radiology Course include:

  • Ultrasound anatomy review and terminology
  • Protocols & techniques
  • Interpretation examples and key teaching points
  • Considerations for special patient scenarios

In-depth Case Review – 40+ cases with ultrasound images and full DICOMs showing examples of:

  • Mullerian Duct Anomalies types
  • Intrauterine Devices (IUD) normal positioning and abnormal positioning
  • Diagnosis of adenomyosis
  • Classic features of fibroids/leiomyoma on ultrasound and MRI
  • Endometrium normal and abnormal variants
  • Endometritis after c-section

And when you’re done…
