HISTORY:

This 17-year-old male presents with TMJ pain.

(QUIZ ANSWER) PRIIMARY FINDING IN THIS CASE:

Right TMJ: Small spur associated with the posterior mastoid eminence.

Using the diagnostic web viewer, we have provided images that assist in telling our clinical story. Areas of significance are indicated below.

FINDINGS:

Small spur associated with the posterior mastoid eminence on the right side. No evidence of internal derangement, however. Appropriate morphology of the meniscus and capture with opening. Early chondromalacia of the mastoid eminence articular cartilage is noted without erosion or effusion.

Normal left side. Specifically, the meniscus is normal in position and morphology. With opening there is appropriate translation and capture. No effusion. No spurs and no high-grade chondromalacia.

At the film's edge the left maxillary sinus shows a small mucous retention cyst.

CONCLUSION:

1. Small spur associated with the posterior mastoid eminence on the right side. No evidence of internal derangement, however. Appropriate morphology of the meniscus and capture with opening.

2. Normal left side.
