Report

Report
CLINICAL INDICATION: Right lower quadrant pain, rule out appendicitis

COMPARISON: None

TECHNIQUE:
Ultrasound evaluation of the right lower quadrant using a linear transducer with graded compression was performed.

FINDINGS:

Appendix: A blind-ending tubular structure in the right lower quadrant compatible with the appendix measures up to 13 mm in diameter and was noncompressible, compatible with appendicitis. There is a nearby collection of mildly complex fluid measuring 2.4 x 0.9 x 2.6 cm. There is also a nearby mildly dilated small bowel loop, probably localized ileus.

Bowel: As above.

IMPRESSION:

1. Positive for appendicitis.
2. Small collection of nearby right lower quadrant fluid which could represent phlegmon or developing abscess, raising the possibility of perforation.
