PATIENT HISTORY: Perianal discomfort
MRI pelvis with and without intravenous contrast.
INDICATION: Anal/rectal abscess.
COMPARISON: None.
TECHNIQUE: MRI of the pelvis was obtained with and without IV contrast.
Findings:
There is a transsphincteric fistula arising at the 6:00 position of the anus, approximately 2 cm cephalad to the anal verge. This extends to the left ischiorectal fossa where there is a 2 x 1.2 cm. This abscess also has a small component that extends cephalad and more posteriorly.
No pelvic adenopathy is seen. Bilateral hydroceles are partially imaged.
IMPRESSION:
Transsphincteric fistula with associated abscess as described.
