Tibial Nerve

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

Let's talk tibial nerve, and therefore,

0:03

we're talking about the anatomy of the tarsal tunnel.

0:06

Not the anterior tarsal tunnel,

0:08

but the main medial tarsal.

0:12

You can use the mnemonic Tom,

0:15

Dick, and very nervous Harry.

0:19

So, Tom, the tibialis posterior.

0:22

Dick, the flexor digitorum.

0:24

Very veins burying the posterior

0:27

tibial artery, which is right in here.

0:29

And then nervous, the nerve, posterior

0:32

tibial nerve, or the tibial nerve.

0:35

And then hairy, the flexor

0:36

hallucis, tendon, and muscle.

0:39

A useful, cute mnemonic.

0:41

If we follow the tibial nerve inferiorly,

0:45

it's gonna bifurcate into two nerves.

0:47

Let's follow it.

0:48

There it is bifurcated.

0:49

It's still bifurcated into a

0:51

medial and lateral plantar nerve.

0:55

Right next to it is the neurovascular,

0:57

or the vascular bundle, or pedicle.

0:59

These are veins.

1:00

There's the posterior tibial artery

1:02

with a little more flow void.

1:03

There's another vein around it.

1:05

Let's review again.

1:06

Tom, tibialis posterior.

1:08

Dick, flexor digitorum.

1:10

Harry, as an excellent landmark, for right

1:13

behind it is the medial plantar nerve.

1:15

Just lateral to it is the lateral plantar nerve.

1:19

There's the posterior tibial

1:20

artery and some surrounding veins.

1:22

And for your pleasure, the superficial

1:25

retinaculum, or laciniate ligament.

1:28

Thank you.

1:28

We're going to tackle the

1:29

plantar nerves separately.
