Coronal Anatomy: Extrinsic Ligaments Part 1

0:00

Welcome to MRI Online, the wrist extrinsics,

0:04

or extrinsic ligaments, and we're going to

0:06

start out with something kind of subtle.

0:09

We're going to talk about the

0:11

scaphotrapeziotrapezoid ligament.

0:16

It's kind of a small, ill-defined set of

0:19

ligaments that go from the scaphoid, here's

0:22

the scaphoid, to the greater multangular,

0:25

or trapezium, and also to the trapezoid.

0:28

Now, these ligaments will be found

0:30

on both the dorsal surface and the

0:33

ventral surface of these three bones.

0:36

So you have a small group in the

0:37

front and a small group in the back.

0:39

This doesn't seem like a big

0:40

deal, these tiny little ligaments.

0:42

However, they are involved in stabilizing

0:46

the scaphoid and keeping it from rotating.

0:48

And that's a pretty important thing.

0:50

Let's take a look on MRI.
