Neoplasms of the Intradural Intramedullary Space

0:01

As opposed to degenerative spondylomyelopathy,

0:04

most of the other lesions of the spinal cord that

0:07

we will examine will lead to cord expansion with

0:11

a possible exception of demyelinating diseases.

0:15

With demyelinating diseases,

0:16

you may see cord atrophy in those patients who

0:19

have undergone transverse myelitis and we

0:22

are seeing it in the chronic phase.

0:24

So what we're to do is to start

0:26

in on the neoplastic category.

0:28

And within the neoplastic category, you see that

0:30

the most common of these lesions are going

0:33

to be astrocytoma, ependymoma,

0:36

metastases and hemangioblastoma.

0:39

There are other unusual neoplasms that can affect

0:42

the spinal cord that we will also see in our

0:45

cases. So let's start in on the neoplastic cases.
