Imaging Artifacts in MRI and CT

HIDE

0:00

A quick word about artifacts,

0:02

both for CT and MRI.

0:04

On CT, the artifact that causes the most difficulty is dental

0:09

amalgam artifact or dental appliances that can lead to a

0:13

lot of spray artifact interfering with

0:15

the quality of your imaging.

0:17

With MRI, the metal artifact of dental amalgam

0:20

is less of an issue.

0:22

However, you have to be careful to make sure that

0:24

the patient is not wearing eye makeup,

0:26

because much of the eye makeup has in it cobalt and

0:30

that will lead to artifacts obscuring the eyelids.

0:33

Similarly, if patients have tattoos around their eyes,

0:37

you may have issues with artifacts which can be reduced,

0:40

once again, by reducing the TE,

0:42

the time to echo of the MR sequence.
