Report

EXAM: Head ultrasound (US)

INDICATION: 1-month-old female, born prematurely, with history of difficult delivery.

TECHNIQUE: Multiple grayscale sonographic images were obtained of the head.

FINDINGS:

There are hypoechoic regions at the periventricular and perifalcine parietal parenchyma. No acute hemorrhage is identified. The ventricles are mildly enlarged but symmetric in appearance. There is symmetric enlargement of the extra-axial fluid spaces.

IMPRESSIONS:

1. Cystic encephalomalacia of the left greater than right parietal parenchyma, likely the sequela of prior hypoxic ischemic injury.
2. Moderate symmetric enlargement of the extra-axial fluid spaces. These are concerning for subdural fluid collections
