Report

Report - Case 1
DIAGNOSIS: Malrotation

EXAM: Limited Abdominal Ultrasound (US)

INDICATION: 8-year-old girl with vomiting.

TECHNIQUE: Multiple grayscale and color Doppler sonographic images were obtained of the midline abdomen.

FINDINGS:

Images of the midline upper abdomen demonstrate a normal relationship of the superior mesenteric artery and the superior mesenteric vein. However, more inferiorly, this normal relationship is reversed, with the superior mesenteric vein visualized ventral to and left of the superior mesenteric artery.

IMPRESSIONS:

Reversal of the normal relationship of the more distal superior mesenteric artery and superior mesenteric vein, concerning for intestinal malrotation. Recommend further evaluation with fluoroscopic upper GI examination and small bowel follow-through.
