Finger – Glomus tumor

CASE HISTORY

Evaluate for glomus tumor right thumb mass. Pain under the nail. Had excision a year ago with nail regrowth ridge which is red and painful.

TECHNICAL FACTORS

Long- and short-axis fat- and water-weighted images were performed. 

KEY IMAGES

CASE FINDINGS

  • Lobulated region of T2 hyperintensity within the nail bed of the thumb measures 7 x 4 x 7.5mm. Signal characteristics and location are consistent with a glomus tumor. 
  • No fracture is demonstrated. Mild degeneration at the interphalangeal joint is demonstrated. Flexor and extensor tendons are intact. Mild degeneration involves the MCP joint of the thumb. 2nd MCP joint degeneration is also noted. 

CASE CONCLUSION

Glomus tumor measures 7 x 4 x 7.5mm within the nail bed of the thumb. Tumor is located within the central aspect of the nail bed.
