Dr. P here talking about the first division of the portio

0:03

major of the trigeminal nerve, the sensory division.

0:07

The first branch of the sensory division,

0:10

also known as the ophthalmic division is

0:14

seen right here, labeled number one.

0:17

Behind it is the Gasserian or semilunar ganglion

0:21

and the portio major coming into it.

0:24

As we go a little bit distally,

0:26

we'll run into the ciliary ganglion.

0:30

The ciliary ganglion is associated with sympathetic

0:35

function of the sphincter pupillae,

0:39

and parasympathetic function as well,

0:43

via the third cranial nerve.

0:45

Then we've got the sensory function or nerves to the

0:50

anterior and posterior ethmoidal areas, which are

0:53

kind of in this location, the frontal nerve,

0:56

which is not displayed but which

0:57

flips up a little bit above the eyebrow,

1:01

and the nasociliary nerve,

1:03

as well as the lacrimal nerve,

1:05

which goes towards the region of the lacrimal bed.

1:08

So that's the first division of the trigeminal

1:11

nerve for you test takers.

1:12

It's going to go through the SOF

1:15

or superior orbital fissure. Don't forget that.

1:20

Dr. P out.
