57-year-old woman recalled for calcifications in left breast

0:00

Our next patient is a 57-year-old

0:02

woman recalled for evaluation of

0:04

calcifications in the left breast.

0:08

So these are the screening views for

0:09

this patient, and she does have bilateral

0:12

calcifications, but there were some

0:13

grouped calcifications in the left breast.

0:17

So this is the group here.

0:23

See them also on the MLO view, and of

0:25

course, heterogeneous calcifications.

0:29

And when we brought the patient back in from

0:32

her recall, we did diagnostic views, including

0:35

magnification views in CC and lateral projection.

0:39

So here's the CC projection.

0:41

You can see these grouped coarse

0:43

heterogeneous calcifications.

0:45

A few others out here.

0:47

She does have other benign-appearing

0:49

calcifications in this area, but these were

0:53

new or increasing compared to her prior exam.

0:56

Here they are on the lateral view,

0:59

sort of coarse, heterogeneous,

1:03

but they are magnified a little bit.

1:05

So, we recommended these for biopsy; we would

1:08

consider these to be a BI-RADS 4, suspicious.

1:13

Sometimes ductal carcinoma

1:14

in situ can look like this.

1:16

And these were biopsied using mammogram guidance.

1:20

The result was fibroadenoma with

1:23

coarse stromal calcifications.

1:26

So this was a benign finding, but at

1:29

the time of her diagnostic examination,

1:31

it was categorized as BI-RADS 4.
