Case 7 - 48-year-old female presents with dorsal mass on right hand

<div>HISTORY:&#160;This 48-year-old female presents with dorsal third digit mass on the right hand.THIN TEAR INVOLVING RADIAL FIBERS IS OF:Third metacarpophalangeal extensor hood.Using the&#160;diagnostic web viewer, we have provided images that assist in telling our clinical story. Areas of significance are indicated below.FINDINGS: At the third metacarpophalangeal joint, a thin split tear involves radial fibers of the third extensor hood. No associated cutaneous defect to suggest a penetrating trauma. Associated extensor tendon and radial aspect of the extensor hood intact. Collateral ligaments about the third metacarpophalangeal joint intact. No substantive third metacarpophalangeal solid mass, ganglion pseudocyst or advanced osteoarthrosis. Normal marrow signal at this joint without microtrabecular stress reaction or fracture. No subluxation. Associated flexor tendons about this joint and the flexor pulley system intact.&#160;Remaining digits of the hand intact. Flexor and extensor tendons of the hand intact. No entrapment neuropathy of median or ulnar nerves. Palmar fascia intact without fasciitis or fibromatosis. No high-grade strain involving thenar, hypothenar or interosseous muscular compartments.&#160;CONCLUSION:&#160;Thin tear involves radial fibers of the third metacarpophalangeal extensor hood. Associated ulnar fibers of the extensor hood and the traversing third extensor tendon intact. Swelling superficially in this region likely accounts for patient reported history of dorsal mass. No solid mass or cystic lesion in this region.</div>
